Saviour

I heard you just as the blackberries were swooning under that
swing where my feet barely touched the ground
maybe I was about five, maybe I was just that little girl in the
green and yellow dress with the funny dog print
I heard you just as well as I heard the wind singing in the trees
beneath the swooping hill and all the way across
this crooked roman land filled with old vineyards and wishes
and I could have taken care of myself if I had to
forever and ever there would have been fairies and bread crumbs
I heard you just as the blueberries were swooning
your voice thick with rust and all your joints cracking loudly
as old as you were then you still are to this day
endless and everlasting but yellowed like an ancient painting
there where my feet touched the ground and
waited for years upon years to feel your warm hands again
you whispered my name amongst the berries
